  • WHO: Syphilis Spreads in China

  •   A senior Chinese public health official says China is experiencing a spread of syphilis, a sexually transmitted viral disease.
  • 一位中国公共卫生高层官员说,现在梅毒在中国广泛传播;梅毒是一种通过性行為传染的疾病。

  •   The World Health Organization quotes Xiang-Sheng Chen of China's Center for the Control of Sexually Transmitted Diseases as saying the disease that China virtually eradicated in the 1960s has experienced a tenfold increase over the past decade.

  •   German Chancellor Angela Merkel has called on the United States to work with Germany to "overcome the walls of the 21st century," as she marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

  •   Chancellor Merkel made the remarks in Washington Tuesday as she addressed a joint meeting of the U.S. Congress.

  •   Ms. Merkel - who began her second term in office last week - thanked U.S. lawmakers and the American people for their support of the reunification of Germany after the wall came down (on November 9) in 1989.
