- US Tells Russia Missile Shield Will Proceed

- The U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates has told his Russian counterpart the U.S. will not replace its planned missile shield in Eastern Europe with a Russian proposal for radar defenses in Azerbaijan.

- U.S. Official Optimistic Space Station Computer Problem Can Be Solved

- U.S. space agency officials (NASA) say they suspect noise from a newly-installed segment of the international Space Station caused computers on the structure to fail.
