  • Reports Show Housing, Unemployment Could Hurt US Recovery

  •   New reports on housing and unemployment show both sectors continue to struggle despite the overall U.S. economic recovery.
  • 有关美国房地產和失业的最新报告显示,儘管美国经济整体上在恢復,但是这两个行业仍然举步维艰。

  •   A report Thursday by a private trade group found sales of previously owned homes fell 5.1 percent from May to June.

  •   The National Association of Realtors said that at the current pace of sales it would take about nine months to sell all of the previously-owned homes on the market.

  • First-Time US Claims for Unemployment Insurance Rise
  • 美国首次申请失业保险的人增加
  •   The U.S. Labor Department says the number of new claims for unemployment benefits rose last week, reversing a decline in new claims from the week before.
  • 美国劳工部说,新申请失业救济的人数在上星期增多, 逆转了之前申请失业救济人数下降的局面。

  •   Thursday's report said new jobless claims increased by 37,000 to 464,000 in the week ending July 17.
  • 週四的报告表示,截止到这个星期 7 月 17 号為止,新申请失业救济的人数增多了叁万七千人,总人数為 46 万 4 千人。

  •   The report also said the number of people who continue to receive unemployment benefits fell slightly, to about 4.5 million.

  •   On Wednesday, the head of the U.S. central bank told lawmakers that the outlook for the world's biggest economy is "unusually uncertain," hurt by a weak job market that has limited consumer spending, which is a key driver of the U.S. economy.
