第三部 第八課: flip out , off my back
- 今天李華來到洗衣店洗衣服，正好碰上的 Michael. 他們兩個人一邊洗衣服一邊聊天，Michael 教給李華兩個常用語： flip out 和 off my back。

- 哎，Michael, 你最近跟你鄰居處得怎麼樣啊？他們是不是還每天晚上吵的很厲害啊？
- It's funny you should mention that. Last night they had their music turned on so loud that I finally just flipped out and went over there and yelled at them.
- 嗯，我覺得啊你做的對，你終於啊去吼吼他們了。疑？可是你剛才說你 flipped out，那是什麼意思啊？是不是指你氣瘋了的意思呢？
- Yeah, to flip out means to go crazy because you are so angry about something. People sometimes flip out because they just can't stand anymore.
- 哎喲，你也真可憐，忍了這麼多個星期以後啊，終於忍無可忍要對他們發火了。
- I know, I really don't like to complain about my neighbors, but it was so loud, my windows were shaking.
- 我真不敢相信，之前你到底是怎麼忍下來的，你怎麼能夠唸書呢？更別說是晚上要睡覺了。
- Well, it is pretty difficult.
- 我啊，要是你的話，我早八百年前就發火了。哎，對了，Michael, 能不能再給我舉個例子，來說明一下怎麼用 flip out 呢？
- Let me see. Well, do you remember I told you about the time I left my keys in the door of my apartment overnight? When my roommate found the keys in the morning, he totally flipped out.

- Yeah, he was so angry, I thought he might actually kill me. He said that, since we don't live in a very good neighborhood, I should be more careful. He said I had put both of our lives in danger.

- Well, my roommate was always getting angry at me for one thing or another. I am glad he doesn't live with me anymore.
- 哎， Michael, 你的衣服是不是洗好了啊？
- Yeah, I have to put my clothes in the dryer now.

- So, Michael, 告訴我，你昨天對你鄰居大吼大叫的，你告訴我他們的反應是什麼呢。
- Not very well. The girl just yelled at me and said 「get off my back」. I think I'm going to have to talk to the apartment company.
- 天啊，他們不但不向你道歉，還對著你吼啊。疑？不過，你說那個女孩說 「get off my back」 是什麼意思啊？
- To 「get off my back」 means to leave me alone or stop bugging me about something. Get, g-e-t, Off, o-f-f, my back, b-a-c-k.
- 哦～，所以要是你說 「get off my back」 就是說：少管我閒事或者說別為了什麼事來煩我。
- She told me to get off her back, because they were just having friends over and listening to some music.
- 哦～，所以當你告訴別人 get off my back, 除了要他別來煩你，也表示你認為自己沒做錯事。
- That's right, Li Hua. Well, I mean her roommate was a little more polite to me. She said they would turn the music down a little bit. But a couple hours later, they just turned it back up again.
- 那，你現在要怎麼辦啊？ Michael?
- I think I've got to call the apartment company now. I don't care if that girl told me to get off her back.
- 嗯，我想啊，既然她根本不理你，那也是唯一的辦法了。哎，有什麼結果再告訴我喔， Michael!

- 今天在洗衣的時候， Michael 告訴李華說他的鄰居實在是太吵了，所以他就 flip out 對她「大喊大叫」，可是這位鄰居卻告訴他「別管閒事兒」，要他 get off her back。
