  • EU, Arab League Tighten Syria Sanctions

  •   European Union diplomats say member nations have agreed to tighten sanctions on Syria, hours after an Arab League committee charged with implementing sanctions targeted Syria's rich and powerful.
  • 欧盟外交官表示,欧盟成员国同意加大对叙利亚的制裁力度;在此之前,阿拉伯国家联盟一个负责实施制裁叙利亚的委员会提议把叙利亚富人和掌权者做為制裁对象。

  •   EU officials said Thursday they added 11 more entities and 12 more individuals to a blacklist hit by travel bans and asset freezes imposed in an effort to stop the Syrian government's bloody crackdown on anti-government protesters.

  • On World AIDS Day, UN Urges Continued Support for Initiatives

  •   United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon says the world is finally in a position to eradicate AIDS, but says funding will be critical to future progress in fighting the epidemic.

  •   In a statement to commemorate World AIDS Day on Thursday, Mr. Ban urged international donors to meet the estimated $24 billion needed annually to fully fund global AIDS initiatives.
