- China's top Taiwan negotiator says a controversial proposal to establish a free-trade pact between the two sides will take time to negotiate, but will benefit both Taipei and Beijing once it is complete.

- Jamaican officials say 91 people were taken to the hospital after an American Airlines jetliner overshot the runway in the island's capital of Kingston late Tuesday.
