Israelis Celebrate 58th Independence Day
以色列人慶祝獨立五十八周年
　　Israelis are celebrating their 58th Independence Day today (Wednesday), with many people picnicking in the countryside after an evening of fireworks and dancing.
以色列人星期三慶祝獨立58周年．在傍晚燃放煙火和跳舞之後，許多人都到郊外野餐。

　　Israel's air force prepares a flyover from northern Israel to the south, while the navy shows off its warships along the Mediterranean coast.
以色列空軍準備從以色列北部地區到南部地區的飛行，海軍則將在地中海沿岸展示軍艦。

　　Thousands of soldiers and police are on patrol around the country, following numerous alerts about supposed attack plans by Palestinian militants.

　　Israeli forces also are enforcing a ban on Palestinian workers entering Israel from the West Bank and Gaza. Closure of the Palestinian territories was declared more than a month ago.

African Union Struggle to Seal Sudan Peace Deal
非盟竭力促成蘇丹和平協議
　　African Union negotiators are struggling to hammer out a peace agreement between the Sudanese government and Darfur rebels. A.U. officials met with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick and Britain's International Development Secretary Hilary Benn this morning (Wednesday morning) in the Nigerian capital, Abuja.
非洲聯盟談判人員為促成蘇丹政府與達爾富爾反政府武裝達成和平協議艱難地努力．非洲聯盟官員星期三早上在尼日利亞的阿布賈會晤了美國副國務卿佐利克和英國負責國際發展的官員希拉裡．貝恩。

　　Several African leaders are also expected to join the talks to press for an end to fighting that has killed an estimated 180-thousand people.

　　The Khartoum government has accepted a peace deal drafted by the A.U. But rebel leaders have refused to sign the document, saying they want more power-sharing, wealth-sharing and security assurances in the agreement.
