第一部 第一課: bummed(out) , chill(out)
- Michael 是個美國人，但是他聽得懂中文．他和李華在這個新學期裡不約而同地都選了攝影課．現在是清早 7 點 50 分，倆人在課堂門口碰到了．請注意他們講話中用的兩個常用語： bummed 和 chill。

- Hey, Li Hua, what are you doing here? You taking this class too?
- 對呀，我選了攝影課．可是這節課這麼早，我最討厭起大早了。
- Yeah, I'm really bummed that I have to get up so early! I'm also bummed out that Dr. Johnson is teaching this class. I've heard she's really tough.
- 嘿， Michael 呀，什麼是 bummed？我記得 bum 不是指無家可歸的人嗎？
- Yeah, that is true. But here I used bummed and bummed out. They both mean to be unhappy or upset. bummed, b-u-m-m-e-d, out, o-u-t.
- 哦～，你看，就一大早這一個字啊就把我給搞糊塗了．原來是 bummed，或者是 bummed out，意思呢就是不高興，感到煩惱．?， Michael 呀，你剛才是怎麼說的啊？
- I'm really bummed that I have to get up so early! I'm also bummed out that Professor Johnson is teaching this class.
- 你是說要那麼早起床實在叫你不高興， Johnson 博士呢教這門課也讓你不高興，因為她很嚴格嘛．?，要是女同學拒絕你的邀請，那你就會更難受了，對不對？
- Ha ha. Very funny. But you are right, if I got turned down for a date I'd be bummed. I'm also bummed that summer vacation is over.

- Oh, no! Chill or chill out here means to relax. Chill, c-h-i-l-l, out, o-u-t.
- 哦～， chill 或者 chill out 在這裡呢是指休息．剛才你還說開學前沒有機會 chill out，那又是什麼意思啊？
- I said: "I haven't had a chance to chill out these last few days getting ready for school."
- 原來你是說，過去幾天為了準備開學而沒有機會休息。
- You normally go someplace calm and peaceful where you can relax. I like to chill out at the cafe with a book sometimes. And I know you like to chill at the museum.
- 要到比較安靜的地方才能休息．每個人還不一樣呢，你喜歡坐在咖啡館裡看書，我喜歡到博物館去．能不能說到酒吧去 chill out 呢？
- Sure, but we usually only say that if the bar is quiet and not too crowded.
- 對，要是酒吧裡人不多，也不鬧，那就能這樣說．今晚我要到我朋友家去 chill out。
- Sounds great! Ah, look at the time. I need to go meet my friend at the bookstore. Sorry that I have to go, I'm really bummed to have to leave you!
- 行啦，你快去書店跟朋友買書去吧，那～，我們下回再到別的地方去玩兒吧。
- Cool. Have fun chilling tonight at your friends'. See you later!
- 嗯，我今晚在朋友家肯定會玩得高興的， Bye！
